First, my apologies for being so absent of late. It's not my fault, but I'm still sorry. Next post will include visuals, cross my heart. First of all life got a bit crazy and usually that doesn't throw me off too much, but this was combined with an internet fall-out with our wireless. We have dial-up for the next little while. Dial-up isn't really bad...it's not the devil or anything but I somehow find it less usable than the wireless. For one thing, the wireless was just there. I didn't have to turn it on and off...I just left it to its' own devices. Now I have to plug and unplug wires. Not that difficult, I'm sure you're thinking, but for some reason doing that during my day eludes me and so the blog suffers. I think I just do not have the brain space to absorb the new how-to-get-online protocols required. Tonight though, out of desperation and absolute guilt, I have cleared out some brain clutter to make space. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to sign on as my dear hubbie (Big E) was already in bed and unavailable for technical support. However, I've done it and darn it I'm proud!
Little E continues to accumulate spoken and signed vocabulary. Recent signs include 'cat' and 'drawing'. The funniest thing is that he now signs for Little B...and ON little B. For example, I was asking Little B if he was hungry and wanted to eat. (It was a rhetorical question of course because I can tell when Little B is hungry by how he wiggles!) Little E signed 'eat' (fingertips to mouth) and then came over and signed it on Little B's mouth! And then the other day he was asking to hold Little B which he does by signing 'please' (open hand rubbing top of chest). I told him no and he reached out to sign 'please' on Little B's tiny chest! Really funny because I'm quite certain that if Little B had a voice in this conversation he would be saying, "Please NO!" At this point in time he does not appreciate his brother's attempts to play with him and interprets these attempts as life threatening events. There are times I can't blame him.
Last Friday we took Little B to the doctor for his check-up. At 3 months of age he is 13.5lbs and 2 feet long. What is interesting about this is his brother at 2 years old is 26lbs and 3 feet long. See what I mean by it won't be long before they're wearing the same size? Little E may end up getting Little B hand-me-downs! It's not impossible.
I continue to be a bit paranoid about the hearing thing. What hearing thing you ask? Well, it has been a secret paranoia for the most part...working with deaf children and seeing the huge amount of work their families go through (if they are on-the-ball, good families) and the struggles about hearing aids and cochlear implants...etc, makes me a bit paranoid about whether or not my babies can hear. I frequently check to make sure loud noises startle Little B. It's not that I would not want a deaf child, or that I'm somehow afraid of dealing with that problem it really comes down to my own personal laziness factor. Being a parent is difficult enough, I just can't imagine adding that into the mix. I need time to read, blog, and watch stupid tv. (I know there are good programs...but let's face it, I'm going to watch Survivor.) I think the problem is I know too much about what I'd need to do to ensure a deaf child remained on par academically and socially with their hearing siblings. Ignorance is bliss and in this case, the ignorance is gone. What's left is a mother who frequently turns up the volume to see if her baby reacts.
Enough, I must save some ramblings for the next post...the one with pictures! And it will appear soon, promises made will be kept! Good night all.
